„SLRM“ means „Sustainable Land and Resource Management“. Often, the term „SLM“: „Sustainable Land Management“ is also used. Based on comparable definitions for „SLRM“/“SLM“, and in the context of „Aquascopie“, the term means: the development of strategies towards a sustainable management and use of water, soil and biomass, which re-generate and sustain the ability of land to stabilise our climate, and to produce clear, potable water; fertile soil; diversified biomass; and space for regeneration („Ecosystem Services“). Against the background of „Aquascopie“, the ability of land to buffer water (in biomass and soil) plays a key role for the provision of the „Ecosystem Services“.
There are multifacated strategies for a sustainable use and cultivation of water, soil and biomass. Examples are:
- Supporting scientific, societal and political discourses about explanations for ecosystem functions,
- Developing and implementing SLRM-monitoring strategies (this includes discourses about the type and prioritisation of criteria and indicators),
- Discussing the degree and the level of responsibilities for SLRM implementation (EU, watershed/regional/local authorities, single enterprises) and developing related communication structures, institutions and incentive strategies,
- Developing platforms for know-how exchange for instance about land-use-modules (as for instance agro-forestry, short-rotation-coppices, wetland management); about organisation- and communication strategies; or about implementation and controlling strategies.
